The Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) on Monday beheaded a canadian national, John Ridsdel, held hostage by terrorist group since September 2015. Mr Ridsdel together with other fellow canadian, and a filipino citizen were kidnappped in Samal island in Davao region and brought to Sulu where they were taken hostages. ASG demanded  ransom in exchange for hostages’ release. In a news conference, Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudea, condemned in strongest terms the execution of Mr. Ridsdel. ASG is a ragtag of terrorist groups that operates openly in Sulu Archipelago. More than 10 hostages are still in the clutches of ASG.
